President

Role Mandate

The President provides strategic leadership to the Board of Directors, ensuring the integrity of the Board’s processes and representing the Ontario Council (OC) to external parties. The President coordinates all Board activities to fulfill governance responsibilities and facilitates cooperative relationships among the Directors.

As the primary presiding officer, the President ensures that the Board addresses all matters within its mandate and maintains a high standard of conduct. In addition to provincial duties, the President may serve as the Regional Vice President on CFUW National Board to maintain a strong link between levels of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  3. Governance Reporting: Report regularly to the Board on issues relevant to its governance and operational responsibilities.

  4. Policy Enforcement: Set a high standard for Board conduct and enforce all policies and Bylaws regarding the conduct of Directors and Members.

  5. Ex-Officio Status: Serve as an ex-officio member of all Board committees, providinginput and guidance as required.

Board Development & Succession

  1. Mentorship & Performance: Serve as a mentor to Directors, ensuring all members contribute fully and addressing any issues regarding individual underperformance.

  2. Orientation: Present an orientation program to new Board members at the start of each term (or upon the appointment of a new Director) covering duties, schedules, and responsibilities.

  3. Succession Planning: Lead the identification of prospective candidates and ensure a robust succession plan is in place for future Board terms (through a Nomination Committee).

Meeting Schedule & Authority

The Board meets at least four times annually via electronic platforms. In years featuring in-person Speaker Series events or an in-person AGM, the President will convene an in-person Board meeting immediately before or after the event to facilitate camaraderie and fellowship among Directors.

The President may delegate the chairing of meetings to a designate as necessary and carries out any additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
